Associate Professor of Physics, College of Idaho
Dr. Kathryn Devine is originally from Rochester, Minnesota. As an undergraduate, she studied physics at Carleton College, a small liberal arts college in Minnesota. She went on to receive her Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. After she completed her graduate studies, she moved to Boise, Idaho to join the physics faculty at the College of Idaho. Her primary research focus is on star formation. Her current projects use infrared and radio wavelengths to study "Galactic bubbles," expanding regions of dust and gas around young, massive stars. For fun, she enjoys many of the outdoor activities that Idaho has in abundance, including hiking, skiing, and climbing.
Chemistry Lecturer, Boise State University
Dr. Christopher Saunders grew up in small-town north Idaho. His interest in science started at an early age with his 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Humble. She showed his class just how fun it can be to discover how the world around us works. He received his B.S. from The College of Idaho in 2002. It was during those undergraduate years that he started to develop an interest in teaching. He worked at Analytical Labs, Inc. in Boise for two years after graduating before starting his graduate studies. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Arkansas in 2011. His research focus was method development in the detection of methionine sulfoxide in proteomic samples. This is another way of saying he studied how to detect certain changes in the proteins that make up living organisms. After finishing his Ph.D., he moved back to the Treasure Valley. He taught at College of Western Idaho as an adjunct professor for a year and The College of Idaho for 4 years. This year he started teaching at Boise State University primarily teaching biochemistry and introductory chemistry courses. He loves every day that he gets to interact with students. His continuing research interests revolve around science education. When he is not teaching, he loves to cook, read, play board games, and spend time with friends and family.
