Wildlife Management!
- Wildlife Management ['wīld-'līf] ['mænɪʤmənt]
- The science and art of managing wildlife and its habitat, for the benefit of the soil, vegetation and animals, including humans.
There are many agencies at the state and national level that are involved in managing wildlife. Wildlife managers try to balance the needs of animals against those of people who may want to hunt them or build roads and houses in their habitats. They try to maintain the biodiversity of a habitat, and to make sure we have enough members of a species, but not too many. Wildlife managers study the carrying capacity of an area to determine how much habitat must be conserved to maintain healthy wildlife populations. Changes to a habitat can affect its carrying capacity and lead to the loss of an entire species, or extinction.
